PIE 2025 Special Guest: Beth Hetland!

PIE is thrilled to announce that Beth Hetland will be a Special Guest for PIE 2025! Beth Hetland is a cartoonist, educator, and champion of making weird shaped paper zines with your hands. She is a 2024 Bram Stoker Nominee and Harvey Award Nominee for Book of the Year.

Beth’s stories explore memory, family, and personal history, such as Fugue, a three-part comic about music and generational connection. Her most recent book, Tender, blends the body horror sub-genre with a sharp, subversive twist, diving into the relentless societal expectations placed on women. It’s gross, deeply personal yet universally relatable.

Beth’s handmade books are a tactile wonderland and a pleasure to experience. We’re obsessed with the gorgeous silkscreen covers and unique flap folds of the Half Asleep series, the series of fabric silkscreen books (Collapse, Dis(quiet), Impact,) the pizza shaped Team Work Makes The Dream Work, and so much more.

In addition to her artistic practice, Beth is a dedicated educator (and how we first got to know her!)  She has taught comics and storytelling, inspiring the next generation of cartoonists. She is a fierce advocate for the medium as both an artistic and educational tool. Whether through her comics, teaching, or speaking engagements, she continues to shape and contribute to the world of independent comics with humor, heart, and a love for the craft. We’re so excited that Beth is joining us at PIE 2025 as a special guest!
